The Shropshire village of Hadnall lies on the busy A49 just 6 miles north east of Shrewsbury. At one stage in its history the village had its own railway station on the Welsh Marches Line, but although the line still runs on the outskirts of the village, the trains no longer stop at Hadnall. In 1837 the village held its own race meeting, although the one-day meeting was restricted to ponies and galloways and was not repeated in subsequent years.
